Sub-page – add QMplus activities

The QMplus August release announcement (http://www.elearning.capd.qmul.ac.uk/announcements/qmplus-august-release/) included this:

4. Sub-page – allows you to add QMplus activities onto inner pages within course.

Can someone explain what that means, please? I thought it meant that I would be able to add a page resource and then add other resources and activities to that page as I can to a section, which would be very useful. But if it does mean that then I can't see how to do it.

Thanks, Francis

Hi Francis,

You don't add a "page" but a "sub page".  They are two different items in the resources section of the activity chooser.  Have you tried adding a "sub page"?

We have come across an oddity with the sub page though.  It appears you can add things to it but you can't delete them.

Oh but you can delete them - just not in the subpage but in the orphaned resources of the main page.

I agree with general comments about the subpage tool it does behave very oddly and not as you would expect.

Brilliant Mark.  Thank you for providing us with the solution to that issue.

Dear Gill,

Thanks. I’m now using a few subpages and they seem to provide a very useful way to add tree structure to the otherwise flat structure of Moodle.

I may be completely dumb but I dont seem to be able to get subpages to work for me. I see perfectly well the sections when I am in editing mode but then they don't show up when I turn the edditing mode off. Probably something really silly I am not doing right .....

Dear Nathalie,

I don't have the problem you describe and I can't provoke it by switching to different roles. But prompted by your post I have just noticed that my subpages are not visible using guest access; they are only visible if I am logged in. Fortunately, this doesn't matter for the context in which I am currently using subpages, but it's something to be aware of. I don't know whether this is a bug or a feature, but I hadn't expected it!

Thank you Francis.

Are you using "sections" in your subpages?

So I also had problems with the permissions on subpages which I had to get the helpdesk to fix. Hope that helps.

That said if a number of people are having issues this perhaps suggests that the default access settings for the subpage aren't right - they certainly don't mirror that of the main page which would be what I would expect.

No, I'm not using sections (other than the main section) within my subpages.
