Why do some module areas show older Assignment 2.2 assignment areas and others don't? Is it something to do with module not having rolled over properly?

I understand that Assignment 2.2 areas can not yet be upgraded to the most current QMplus assignment version? It of course would be good if they could, it's also a little frustrating that they don't seem to be able to be removed.

On the subject of Assignments. It would be useful to be able to change the Require students click submit button to No across a Catagory. I am guessing this is not possible? The reason being that we have had cases recenlty where students leave their submission in Draft state.

Hi Hassan,

Yes, these assignments should not work and it is because the module has not rolled over properly and this has only happened to some modules and not all.

However, I just tested this in my test area and I was able to remove a 2.2 assingment which had student submissions. Please click on 'Turn editing on' and 'Delete' the assignment it should work, if not can you raise a ticket and we can look into the specific module you are unable to do this on.

For your last question, I would advise that when you or the academics create the assignment you ensure that Require students click submit is set to 'No' and this will avoid the problem - as we can't change this for a category of assignments.

Hope that helps.

Hi Hassan,

Just to highlight that there are pros and cons to each setting.

If you set the assignment setting up to 'no' - so that students are not required to click the submit button - this will mean that the student can continuously edit their work - even after the due date - as they are not actually submitting it. Some people may not want that, and by requiring them to click a submit button, this will make their submission final and uneditable after the due date.

More information on that is on our guide here: http://www.elearning.capd.qmul.ac.uk/guide/can-the-submit-assignment-button-be-turned-off-as-with-the-send-for-marking-button-in-2-2/

Just wanted to highlight that in case you hadn't realise, and for anyone else reading this.

Hope this clarifies why it has been set that way by default.

Best Wishes,

Alysa

Hassan, were you asking just about 2.2 assignments, or all assignments? In the Moodle 2.6 assignment option, you can turn off the 'Send for Marking' / 'Submit' button, and then set both the due date AND the cut-off date to the same time. This means that students can edit work continuously until the deadline, but not once it passes.

But to be honest, our experience in English and Drama is that you need to play with and test all relevant settings in the system quite extensively before you can be confident that you've found a configuration that more-or-less fulfils your requirements.

Best wishes,

Richard

Thanks Richard.

Hassan, if you are setting up a new assignment it should be done with the 2.6 assignment (the option you get when you go to add an activity) and you can try what Richard suggests.

Hi Richard,

I was asking about the 2.2 assignment areas and how to remove them. It's good to learn that 2.2 assigments can be removed.

I otherwise encourage our teachers to use current, default, 2.6 assignments.

The reason for my post here was more for removing older assignment areas, which I'm now hoping will make our QMplus areas more straightforward, for both students and teachers.

Thank you for your good advice regarding testing things extensively.

Sorry Hassan just to update you anyone who has a 2.2 assignment will still have a 2.2 assignment as we haven't upgraded them yet (we are hoping to do this before next upgrade) and we had to keep them in case people were still using it. We will inform you when this will happen- it is not to do with rollover sorry.

Thanks

Anisa
