Question about the "Show One Section Per Page" Format option

Hi everyone,

In a bid to reduce the load times of some of our heavier QMplus sites, I've been experimenting wiht the "Show One Section Per Page" option in the course settings (under Course Format).  I thought that this might help by splitting up the content into a series of smaller pages, and thus reducing load time.

However, it's not doing what I expect it to, in that visiting the course front page still loads all the content. One can get pages for individual sections, but only via the course menu, and the option seems to behave inconsistently across the various course types.

I don't think it used to work like this, but I'm not entirely sure.  This could be a bug in the system, or maybe I'm just confused about how it should work, so I'm posting this here rather than to the helpdesk in the first instance.  Does anyone know whether I'm doing something wrong, or have others seen the same unexpected behaviour?

Thanks,

Chris

We do the same thing and it is working for us. I notice it will show all the content when you turn editing on. But when juts in viewing mode everything is fine.

I think I do remember that you need to make sure that the Format (In Course Format in settings) needs to be set to "Topics format (QMUL)". If you have it set to other settings it may ignore the Course layout setting.

Have a fiddle around with those settings and I think it might fix things.

Aha - thanks, Ben, that works!

Some of this may have been that I just didn't get it.  In particular I didn't realise that the "one section per page" option showed the summary fields of each section.  Coupled with the fact that a lot of my colleagues had put almost all their text for each section into the Summary field, this meant that even though "only" summaries were being displayed, the page still looked like it was complete.

It sounds like we need to change the way we enter information into QMplus (or guidelines for so doing) if we are going to use this option.

Thanks again,

Chris
