QMplus Questions and Answers /
Topic/Week Content Not Visible

13 October 2012, 21:24

Hello,

I am one of many teachers on SEF030 (Science and Engineering Foundation Programme), which is delivered by the Language Centre for the School of Biological & Chemical Sciences. I was also responsible for uploading content to help them with their assessed essay and preparatory seminar on 'the impending global water crisis'. I therefore spent a great deal of time uploading web links, video clips, downloads of ejournal articles from QM library, etc. to assist them. This should all be accessible on the Qm Plus page, is the last topic and is titled "Water Essay": Resources Folder. However, when I was in the language lab. on Friday, teaching my class and told the students to look at the material, they could not see a thing. This is also true when I 'switch user' to 'student view'. Everything is visible to me and my colleagues as teachers, but nothing as a student. All they can see is the topic label and when they click on the arrow, it flips up and down, but nothing appears. I have sent an email to the ITS/Helpdesk, but have not received a reply yet. I also tried to phone the Learning Institute, but got no answer/a recorded message. Can anybody help with this ASAP? We have about 10 classes, each with about twenty students in, who are going to be affected by this and I currently feel very frustrated.

Dear William,

A similar problem has been resported recently - the reason was that the whole section in which files were uploaded was made invisible as a default setting. Switching individual files to 'show' mode did not work.

Try the following. Go to Settings while on the main module page, click 'Edit settings', scroll donw a little, change format from 'Collapsed Topic (QMUL)' to 'Weekly format (QMUL)', for example, then scroll down to the bottom and save changes. This format will display new icons for each section, at the right corner. Make sure that all sections (those you want to use) are set up as visible, i.e. all 'eye' icons are open.

Then go back and change the format back to 'Collapsed Topic (QMUL)'. Test the visibility of your files now.

Hope it will help,

Michaela

Dear Michaela,

Brilliant! I did as instructed and it is fine now. Thank you so much, this is a great weight off my mind.

Best wishes,

William
