Dear all

As part of the package of design enhancements for QMplus in phase 2 of the project we are working with our design partners on improving the look and feel of some of the tools in QMplus.

In particular we will be working on improving the Moodle Book, aspects of the gradebook (teacher and student view), ensuring that the new tools we put in this month look good and fit in with our theme (OU wiki, OU blog, Turnitin assignment, new submission manager, certificate module, wimba voice tools).

We already have quite a few design enhancement requests in the tracker but I wonder if users have any further comments they would like to make about tweaks we can make to existing tools that would make the user experience smoother and more enjoyable? I can't guarantee that we will be able to improve everything (e.g. aspects of the assignment screens like the horizontal scroll) are part of Moodle itself.

These enhancements will form part of release 1.6 due on the live site at the beginning of the academic year.

Before you post , please do check the tracker in this group first to see if your enhancement has already been added!

Thanks in advance

Brett Lucas

An enhancement I would like to see is that after I move an item in collapsed topic format I would like to be left looking at roughly the same point in the page instead of the top of the page. To be specific, I just added four files to a topic. (I used drag-and-drop, which worked nicely!) I wanted the files near the top of the topic, so I had to move them from the bottom where they were put by default. For each file this meant clicking on the move widget, which took me to the top of the page. So then I had to scroll back to the topic and click in the box to indicate where to put the file, which took me back to the top of the page again. Then I had to scroll back to the topic and repeat for the next file. In total, I had to scroll back to the topic eight times to move the four files. If QMplus remembered where I was when I clicked the move widget and the move to box, I could have avoided all this scrolling.

I made a similar complaint about the TPAP web app and that was fixed very quickly, so I feel it should be fixable in QMplus as well.

Best wishes, Francis

Thanks Francis,

I have added your suggestion to the tracker at the following location so that you or anyone else who is interested can add it to their watchlist or place a comment on the page.

Another sugestion would be improving the group / cohort area.

Two main things would help:

1) the ability to see a users e-mail address along with their name (this helps when there are two people in the system with the same name

2) Ideally the ability to add users in bulk to these

I think this relates to Mark's second point... it would be great if we could add student users directly to Mahara groups. Having to invite them, and then wait for them to accept the invitation, is clunky and impossible to manage in practice. I appreciate that Mahara is understood as 'student led' - but the workflow required to create a group effectively limits its usefulness as a teaching tool. Apologies if this *is* currently possible - but I've not been able to find a route!

In addition to Francis, Mark and Matthew's suggestions of which I have the same issues can we also have the following:

1. A star rating system similar to how items are rated on Amazon and eBay. We would really like to use this as a quick way to rate all our lectures.

2. Improved feedback. It lacks an obvious feature in that when you choose other there is no where to add the other information unless you move to another page.

3. Email confirmation to student that their assignment has been successfully uploaded.

4. Improved method for uploading videos so that we can add in a variety of formatsand sizes.

5. The videos play on mobile devices particularly iPads. Students continually ask for this and a solution must be found.

6. Fixes to grade book including:

i) freezing the top row and ccolumn

ii)looking into why scores in some quizzes do not appear in the grade book when others do.

7. A tidier RSS feed from q-review showing only the title, date and time of the lecture.
