Are we going to be able to use this app?

Hi Gary,

It is actually possible to use the app at the moment.  The outstanding issue is that for Turnitin assignments that are set up through QMplus,  the grades in Turnitin are not currently transferred into the QMplus grade book.

If you have access to Turnitin assignments, if you follow the app instructions you'll find that everything works.

One thing that people miss is that after you've installed the app on your iPad you have to go into the Turnitin app settings and set the data source to "Turnitin UK", everything should work then.

We'll be communicating more about this soon.

Hi Gill,

Great it worked. Thanks. I think this could prove useful.

I thought that with the new Turnitin assignment in QMplus the grades will get transfered across. I hope it does as I can see this tool could be really useful. So many of our tutors have iPads.

Regards

Gary

Hi Gary,

Yes, things should work with the new Turnitin plugin however since we haven't released that yet I didn't want to cause any confusion with current Turnitin assignments in QMplus.

Apologies if I am straying off the topic of the App but my question is closely related!

If we mark a paper in Turnitin using Quickmark and the score is transferred into the GradeBook, is it the case that the score  will immediately be released to the student?

There is a need to release marks to all students at the same time rather than the drip release as they are marked and to allow space for moderation or second marking of the papers before results are released.

The other related question is whether the Grade Book if used will pass the scores onto MySis where I guess the official results are stored.

Kind regrds to all

Hi Terry,

Adding a grade on Turnitin will not transfer it automatically to the QMplus gradebook in the assignment types we have currently. There is a new type of assignment that will be available on QMplus following next Tuesday's update, which is called the Turnitin assignment and this one would transfer the grades added on Turnitin to the gradebook in QMplus. You may also wish to log in to Turnitin directly to check and perhaps adjust the Turnitin Post-Date which is when students would be able to see the grades on the Turnitin site. this cannot be edited from QMplus.

If you are adding grades to assignments in QMplus, there is a way of hiding grades until a specific date. See this FAQ  on the Web Helpdesk.

Grades do not go from the gradebook in QMplus to MySIS by any automated process either. You could download them from the QMplus gradebook as a CSV file and use that to upload them to MySIS. We would like to make the process more streamlined ultimately but not to have it automatically update them.

Best wishes,

Joanne
