Spell checking
16 August 2013, 16:26
This seems to have stopped working in Moodle. To reproduce the problem, go to a module site in QMplus, add a new label somewhere, type some garbage and click on the spell check button. It reports "No misspellings found.", even when there are very clear misspellings in the document.

Thanks for letting us know about this Francis. I can see that this is the case on the course pages although not here in the groups and portfolios area which has a different editor.
I will raise a ticket to have this resolved.

We have contacted our hosting company who replied to say that the spell checker in Moodle no longer works as there was a security issue and Google withdrew support. It was suggested that Moodle will be depending on browsers from now on to spell check.
For anyone reading this who is unsure how to turn the spell check on in their web browser, the following article may help: adding spell check in popular browsers.

Thanks. In that case, I suggest that the spell check button be removed from the editor.
The downside of doing the spell checking in the browser is that, as far as I can see, it only works in HTML view and not in WYSIWYG view.
