Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer

Sample Information

This sample was obtained from the research team of Shi Xuetao, the Advanced Materials Research Laboratory of Northwestern Polytechnical University. It was originally a sample of material performance test prepared by Hexcel Composites. Its size is 11x17 cm2, which is a two-way braided structure. We did a simple cropping operation later on.

Introduction

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer, carbon fiber reinforced plastic, or carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic (CFRP, CRP, CFRTP), is an extremely strong and light fiber-reinforced plastic which contains carbon fibers. CFRPs can be expensive to produce but are commonly used wherever high strength-to-weight ratio and stiffness (rigidity) are required, such as aerospace, superstructure of ships, automotive, civil engineering, sports equipment, and an increasing number of consumer and technical applications.

Literature Review

Carbon fiber refers to an inorganic polymer material having a carbon content of 90% or more by decomposition and carbonization by subjecting an organic fiber such as polypropylene or asphalt to high temperature (1000 ° C to 3000 ° C) under an inert gas atmosphere. Carbon fiber has excellent properties of high electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, high-temperature resistance, and lightweight. Its excellent mechanical properties are unmatched by steel and other alloy metals. Although its specific gravity is only one-quarter of that of steel, its tensile strength can reach 7 times that of steel. In addition, carbon fiber is also highly resistant to corrosion and shock absorption. It is widely used in aerospace, automotive wind power, medical equipment, building reinforcement, and petrochemical industries. The promotion of carbon fiber further promotes the rapid development of the global economy and industrial civilization. It is also known as “black gold” in the world.

Reflection

In the process of making posters, how to properly display the performance, structure and application of materials is the biggest problem in the whole process. The presentation form of the four elements of the material not only comprehensively includes the information of all aspects of the material, but also makes the structure of the whole poster more reasonable and more logical.
