Purpose of the Practitioner Group Forums

The group has a number of discussion forums:

  • News and announcements - used by members of the E-Learning Unit to post items of interest to the group, including service announcements, details of staff development sessions and requests for your input on e-learning issues.  Only ELU staff can start discussions but anyone can reply.
  • QMplus questions and answers - discussions around our most heavily used learning application the online learning environment, QMplus. Anyone can start a discussion and anyone can respond. Wondering if anyone else is using the workshop tool?  Why not ask?
  • General discussion - discussions on any topic related to technology in teaching and learning, internally supported or not.  Anyone can start a discussion and anyone can reply.  Have you found a great app?  Why not tell the group about it?

You can choose to subscribe to any of these forums and you can manage the way you receive notifications from them.

We would like the group to be our main hub for discussion about e-learning at QMUL.  There are many things that we need your input on, and this group is one of the places we look to for input from across the institution.  If you care about the direction of e-learning at QMUL, we really hope you will get involved.

A Few Rules

  1. The forums are where QMUL users can share ideas, good practice, issues and suggestions. We encourage all our members to participate and respond to the posts created within this forum - please be nice :)
  2. Forums are not monitored by the E-Learning Unit like the ITS helpdesk. Please do not rely on a member of the E-Learning Unit to respond quickly.  While we will make every effort to respond to posts, we do depend on other users to also post their replies and share their ideas.
  3. if you have an issue that is affecting one of your courses or a certain tool within a course, you should raise a Helpdesk ticket (at helpdesk.qmul.ac.uk or email its-helpdesk@qmul.ac.uk)  as this needs to be investigated by the technical team and the Helpdesk is monitored regularly.  You may want to raise the issue within the forums in the group to share your problem or to find out if others are having a similar problem. However, please note that these forums do not replace the ITS Helpdesk.
  4. If you have already raised a ticket that is currently being dealt with and you want to share it with other members for information/advice, do mention in your post that a ticket has been raised to avoid duplication of work from our team.

The E-Learning Unit Newsletter

If you would like to receive our brief monthly e-learning newsletter, sent out at the end of each month, which provides information on e-learning, news, course details, service updates etc., please subscribe at this link: http://www.lists.qmul.ac.uk/sympa/info/elearning-practitioners.

We do also post the newsletter in the news and announcements forum in this group so if you are a member and subscribed to the forum, you will already get it.  If you'd prefer to just receive the newsletter by email, subscribe at the link above.
