Turning and grinding

Turning and grinding processes can be carried out at both the macro and micro levels. Although there is some similarity between the two techniques from a kinematic point of view, there are significant differences in several key aspects. Therefore, their boundary conditions in practical applications need to be determined according to specific requirements. Specific to the application of Turing's model, turning usually involves cutting edges with clear geometric definitions; In the grinding process, the geometric characteristics of the cutting edge are often fuzzy or not clearly defined. Both processes are commonly used for daily necessities and automobile manufacturing.

Laser machining

Laser is one of the most mature methods for processing nickel-titanium alloys. It removes the material through the laser beam or radiation, without the need for mechanical contact between the workpiece and the laser beam, so there is no wear problem, thus improving the repeatability of the process. As a thermal processing process, it does not depend on the hardness of the material, but depends more on the optical properties of the laser and the thermal physical and optical properties of the material. This processing method is mostly used for medical devices.^[2]

Waterjet machining

Water Jet Machining (WJM) is a high-energy fluid injection technology that utilizes high-speed jets to achieve precise material removal. When Abrasive is added to a Water Jet, this method is referred to as Abrasive Water Jet Machining (AWJM). This technique is more suitable for cutting Nitinol than milling with internal features such as blind slots. The Nitinol cutting precision of this process is extremely high, which can be effectively applied in the field of robotics and aerospace. ^[3]
