Potential hazards for thermal interface materials

Uncertainty of High-Temperature Decomposition: PDMS has a high flash point (321°C) and is non-flammable under normal thermal management applications. However, under extreme temperatures or non-recommended conditions (e.g., exceeding decomposition temperatures), it may release unknown decomposition products.

Potential Carcinogenic Risk: Although the SDS states that PDMS components do not meet the reporting thresholds for carcinogens set by IARC, NTP, or OSHA, animal studies (subcutaneous implantation) indicate tumorigenic effects.

Reactivity Risks with Strong Oxidizers: PDMS is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. If thermal interface materials are used in environments containing oxidizers (e.g., certain electronic components or chemical industries), uncontrolled reactions may occur.
