Presentation

Experience and suggestions

Caroline and Agnes from CAPD shared their experience of their newly launched Distance Learning course. The CAPD currently runs several Academic Development courses that are delivered face to face primarily with some blended learning elements. They decided to launch a Distance Learning course to deliver flexible and accessible HEA accredited courses to both QMUL staff in London and in our international campuses, and to external academics and staff who support teaching and learning as a commercial income generation opportunity.

Their course was launched with four modules in January 2015. They shared that while delivering a Distance Learning course the tutors need to be more active with communications (messages, instructions etc.) as they don’t have any face to face interactions with the participants. Their overall suggestions were to put put plenty of time aside to develop an online module and always be visible via messages and discussion forums to ensure student engagement.

More information on their course can be found here.
