Dear all

2) App development workshop:
CENTRE FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION EVENT >> *Technology workshop: Web application development *** Wednesday 19 June 2013, 10.00-3.00pm (lunch provided) Room 102, Senate House, London WC1E 7HU The Centre is running a special one-day, hands-on workshop during which attendees will get the chance to develop a web app to support their work. This could be for increasing student and/or staff engagement, supporting teaching and learning, or another practical application. We are running this in conjunction with Appshed <http://www.appshed.com/>, one of many development platforms available. You can see an example of one of their apps here: http://appshed.com/appbuilder/academy/appsgallery. We have arranged this event to investigate how the use of relatively low-tech, cost effective elearning resources can be used to support University of London programmes. During the session attendees will be taken through the process for developing an app on this particular platform, and then will be guided in the creation of their own, working app that will be available for use after the workshop. Users will also be able to use the tool and their accounts to create additional apps. The aim of the workshop is to understand the development process as well as the product. *Spaces on this workshop are free but limited. Therefore to secure a place we would like participants to send us a summary of their app idea (ideally the identified problem and solution, no more than 100 words).*We will be prioritising places for staff from the University of London federation, however those outside of the University may apply for any additional spaces that are available. As there are costs involved in running the event if you do not attend having signed up then we will invoice you £45 for your place. *To apply for a place please email your summaries tocde@london.ac.uk <mailto:cde@london.ac.uk?subject=Web%20app%20development%20workshop>**. Please get in touch if you have any questions. //* /NOTE: The CDE is piloting different types of workshop session to extend its repertoire of events. This workshop is being run in conjunction with an external company who have their own application platform. The aim is to offer something different to our network and we have been assured that this will not be an extended sales pitch./
