2.Noise Resistance
1)One use of melamine sponge is for sound resistance. The open cell structure in melamine sponge raps air as well as sound waves which allows for minimal sound transmission[1].For example, a kind of melamine pyramid sponge has been developed in the market and it can be used in music room for sound reduction, since it has good noise resistance.[2]

2)Data below shows the performance of absorption of the sound. Melamine sponge has good sound absorption efficiency. The higher frequency the noise is, the higher efficiency of sound absorption it will have. As is shown in figure 2, for a 2-inch thick melamine sponge, when the sound is at 125Hz, the absorption efficiency is only 10%, but when the noise reaches 4000Hz, the efficiency reaches 75%![4]
Fig2.noise efficiency about melamine sponge[5]
Scientists have organized numerous experiments to test the detailed figure on noise absorption which proved the excellent performance of the melamine sponge on sound absorbing. For example, B Li tested the noise reduction on a cylindrical cavity which was covered by melamine sponge. They found that in the environment where the noise ranged from 100 to 400 Hz, a 20–40 mm-thick melamine sponge joint ring can achieve noise reduction of 4–8 dB, and the efficiency of noise reduction is directly proportional to the thickness of melamine sponge joint ring.[6]
