A capital legacy
Our history is deeply connected to the capital. We evolved from the People’s Palace, a Victorian venture to bring culture, recreation and education to the East End, and we continue to welcome and nurture the most talented individuals from all backgrounds today.
Our School of Medicine and Dentistry can be traced back to the late 18th century with the beginnings of medical teaching at the Royal London Hospital Medical College in 1785.
We expanded and developed our teaching and research throughout the 20th century. Today, we are a member of the Russell Group – the UK’s top 24 universities recognised for their teaching and research excellence.
Our Research
Our research has a global impact. From the discovery of a new world – Proxima b – to the application of new cancer treatments, the influence of international trade policies, and more, it informs and shapes our teaching.
