Suspension springs play a crucial role in providing a comfortable ride and maintaining vehicle stability. Coil springs are widely used in the automotive industry as one of the main elastic components of vehicle suspension systems. Acting as a link between the wheels and the body of the vehicle, they reduce vibrations and prevent them from being transmitted from the uneven road surface to the body.

Auto Suspension

Another example of an application of chrome-vanadium steel is automotive suspension springs.[2] The elastic components of the vehicle suspension consist of springs and shock absorbers that connect the tyres to the suspension part of the vehicle. The spring elements include springs, coil springs, torsion bars, rubber shear devices and air springs. The spring units absorb the energy generated when the tyres hit an uneven road surface and the shock absorbers dissipate this energy so that the suspension part of the vehicle does not bounce constantly.[3]

Component of Springs

Chrome-vanadium steel offers the necessary strength, durability, and elastic properties required for this application.

Additionally, a spring steel with a small amount of vanadium added is found to have a good sag resistance or resistance to a small deformation, during service for automotive suspension springs. [4]
