Abstract
This website introduces the information about EVA, which is a multipurpose polymer. This website is divided into nine parts, which are literature review, processing route, manufacture, property profile, safety data sheets, applications, our sample, reflection and acknowledgements.
Literature review
EVA is a polymer with a lot of properties. It was firstly invented in 1930s and it was greatly developed after the EVA production launched.[1] There are a number of methods for processing and manufacturing EVA, in these methods, products are totally different. For these different products, the mechanical properties and chemical properties are in large difference. For its superior properties, EVA is widely applied in industry.
Property profile
In general, compared to PE-LD, EVA is more flexible over a broad temperature range, tougher, and transparent, with higher surface gloss. Lower susceptibility to stress cracking and better tear resistance make it to be more acceptable to take higher proportions of filler, which will decrease the price of materials.[3]
Processing Route
Main synthetic methods of EVA are dielectric and microwave welding and Polymer fluidized bed coating[3]. But in the industry, high pressure continuous bulk polymerization[4], medium pressure suspension polymerization[4], solution polymerization and Emulsion polymerization[4] of these four methods are often used as well.
Manufacture
The manufacturing method of EVA mainly depends on the application direction of EVA. There are different manufacturing methods for different applications, such as memory materials[5], 3D printing materials[6] and foaming materials[7].
Applications
Compared with polyethylene, EVA has been widely used in the fields of foamed shoes, functional greenhouse films, packaging films, hot melt adhesives, wires, cables and toys because of the introduction of vinyl acetate monomers in the molecular chain, which reduces the high crystallinity, improves flexibility, impact resistance, filler compatibility and thermal sealing performance.[8]
